Matthias Gottschalk

Matthias Gottschalk is admitted to practice law in both Germany and Switzerland pursuant to Art. 28 BGFA and has many years of experience in intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks and copyright.
Following positions with various media companies in Germany between 1995 and 2001, including work in the legal department of Universal Music, Matthias Gottschalk successfully completed an Executive MBA programme at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) in 2003. He has since practised as an attorney in both Germany and Switzerland. From 2005 until joining Keller & Schneider, he served as Managing Partner of Maiwald Patentanwaltsgesellschaft (Schweiz) mbH and GMP (Schweiz) GmbH.

His main areas of practice include advising medium-sized companies in Germany and Switzerland on intellectual property matters, with a particular focus on the acquisition, enforcement and defence of trademark rights, design rights and copyrights, as well as providing additional support in patent matters and employee invention law.
Further areas of practice include copyright law, competition law and contractual matters, with a particular focus on licensing and distribution law, including online distribution and digital business models.

Attorney Gottschalk is a recipient of the Nathan Burkan Memorial Award presented by ASCAP for an academic paper on copyright contract law in the music industry. He is also a co-author of the merchandising section of the Handbuch des Film-, Fernseh- und Videorechts (eds V Hartlieb/Schwarz).
